Norman DeVol
Assistant Conductor
Norman DeVol is both an accomplished tenor soloist and vocal instructor
in the Bay Area. He received his bachelor’s degree in vocal
performance from San Jose State University, studying with Jeanne
Garson. The California native has performed roles in operas and concerts
with many outstanding musical organizations throughout the Bay Area
and Sacramento, including Pocket Opera, West Bay Opera, Mission City
Opera, Berkeley Opera, Monterey Symphony, Auburn Symphony, Camellia
Symphony, Gold Country Chamber Orchestra, Sacramento State University,
Opera La Piccola Scala, and Sierra College.
Some of Norm’s favorite
roles include Tamino in Magic Flute, Ghermann in Queen of Spades,
and Rudolfo in La Boheme, for which he was nominated for a Sacramento
regional theater Elly Award.
Also well known throughout the greater Sacramento and Bay Area as
a professional vocal coach and instructor, Norm teaches privately
and was on the music faculty of Sierra College in Rocklin for ten
years.
His students perform in many regional theater companies, including
Sacramento Opera and Symphony Chorus, Music Circus, West Marin Singers,
Davis Musical Theater, and Garbeau’s Dinner Theater. fNorm
is assistant conductor of Masterworks Chorale and frequently solos
with the choir.
In addition to Masterworks Chorale, Norman is currently a member
of the San Francisco Opera Chorus and a member of the NATS and AGMA
organizations.
